Program Details
This private Algonquin Provincial Park photography tour is all about getting you water access to great subjects for beautiful wildlife and landscape photography. Always innovating the canoe tour industry, Algonquin Adventure Tours became the first Canadian company to start guiding with eco-friendly Torqeedo electric motors from Germany. These silent, yet powerful, 3hp motors, allows us to approach wildlife with a spectacular water level perspective. We can also efficiently travel between scenic stops. Your private Algonquin Park VIP photography tour follows in the footsteps of one of Canada's greatest painters, Tom Thomson. Our electric canoe comfortably takes 2 passengers (we have three motorized canoes, if you have more than 2 people) on an unforgettable guided exploration of Algonquin Park's historic Tea Lake, Smoke Lake &/or Canoe Lake. The 3 hour adventure is split 70% silent electric motor and 30% paddling (by your guide). This tour is perfect for those who want to relax, have their hands free for photography, or might have limited mobility. Your adventure includes effortless travel, a visit to Tom Thomson's memorial cairn & totem pole (if desired), a scenic picnic (Henrietta's sandwich & granola bar or breakfast pastries), hunting beautiful scenery reflections while paddling down a meandering stream system and ethically seeking wildlife to photograph. All ages and fitness levels are welcome - we've had participants between 8 months and 85 years old on this adventure. VIP tours are guided by Algonquin Adventure Tours founder, Dave Simpson.
This tour has three areas of focus:
1) Algonquin Park Wildlife Photography - For bird photography, the common loon, great blue heron, Canada goose, common merganser, king fisher, grey jay, grackle, blue jay, eagle, hawk, osprey, turkey vulture, pipers and gulls are common subjects. We often get to photograph snapping turtles, painted turtles and frogs, as well. If you like insect photography, there are often good opportunities for dragonfly and butterfly photography. Although less common, we have enjoyed beaver, muskrat, otter, mink, racoon, chipmunk, squirrel, deer and moose photography. Although we can't guarantee seeing a moose (please note that our Algonquin Park 3 day moose & beaver photography safari is your best opportunity to photograph a Canadian moose), or any particular animal, we can guarantee creating excellent photos & memories for a lifetime.
2) Algonquin Park Landscape Photography - Fabulous fall colors, misty mornings, perfect panoramas, righteous reflections and supreme sunsets are all possible on this super scenic photography tour. On rainy days, you might even see a rainbow.
3) Tom Thomson & Algonquin Park History - Algonquin Park was Tom Thomson's inspiration. And this tour will inspire you, by literally walking in the footsteps of Tom Thomson. Your guide will recount a vast knowledge of all things Thomson & Algonquin. The tour will visit the locations Tom Thomson lived, worked, painted and paddled. If your main interest is the Tom Thomson tour segment, we can even pay respect, at his former gravesite.
